12-volt appliances
Currently, the 12-volt family of light fixtures works off standard 110-volt house current with a transformer installed between the high voltage house current and the 12-volt light fixtures. The transformers use electricity and produce heat even if the lighting is switched off between the transformer and the light fixture. I wondered if it were possible to design a lighting system based on 12-volt fixtures connected directly to a PV system. Not only was it possible, according to Larry, one could also include a 12-volt refrigerator, television, radio and other appliances. This reduces the total load and therefore reduces the cost of the PV collector.
